Did you hear the one about Jon Jones allegedly violating traffic laws?
“Bones” was once again pulled over in the streets of Albuquerque, N.M., by a police officer who claims the former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight champion was drag racing (read about it here). What ensued was a very heated back-and-forth, profanity-laced argument between the officer — who issued Jones five citations — that ultimately ensured Jones’ previous deferred sentence went up in smoke.
As you can see in this raw video, Officer Brown didn’t take too kindly to Jones’ multiple insults after the ex-champ called him a “f*cking liar” and a “pig,” firing back with his own sarcastic remarks. Now, TMZ Sports has learned that the lawman is currently not under any type of review, as his interaction with Jones did not break protocol.
However, that can change very soon:
“Officer Brown is not under any type of review. [His] interaction with Mr. Jones didn’t violate any standard operating procedures so further inquiry isn’t warranted. However, if Mr. Jones feels he was treated inappropriately, he may file a Citizen Police Complaint against Ofc. Brown, which would result in an investigation into the traffic stop.”
Several days after the traffic stop, Jones turned himself in to the Albuquerque Police Department after a judge ordered a warrant for his arrest because he violated the terms of his probation. In fact, Jones is still currently sitting in jail and is expected to step in front of a judge tomorrow (Thurs., March 31, 2016). Furthermore, Jones was taken out of general population and put in his very own private wing at Metropolitan Detention Center in Bernalillo County for safety precautions.
He is still scheduled to face Daniel Cormier in the headlining bout of UFC 197 on April 23, 2016, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
