UFC 200 is expected to be the most talked-about pay-per-view (PPV) fight card of the year (see it), but UFC 198 looks to be giving it a run for its money.
Hard to argue against 32,000 seats sold in just 90 minutes.
The Fabricio Werdum vs. Stipe Miocic-led heavyweight championship main event sits atop a line up featuring a who’s-who of Brazilian superstars like Anderson Silva, Vitor Belfort, Ronaldo Souza, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, and Mauricio Rua, among others (full line up here).
UFC 198 takes place Sat., May 14, 2016, inside Arena da Baixada in Curitiba, Brazil.
“It was a dream come true having an event in this stadium and it’s going to be a big success,” UFC Brazilian executive Giovanni Decker said during Wednesday’s press conference (via MMA Fighting). “Today was the first day of sales and in an hour and a half we’ve had approximately 32,000 ticket sales, so May 14th will be a legendary card, a legendary event that I’m sure will be for many years in everyone’s memory.”
With that in mind, it should come as no surprise to learn that UFC already penciled in two additional trips to Brazil in 2016 (September and November) in cities to be determined.
Now then, getting back to UFC 198. It’s good, no question, but is it better than UFC 200?
