It didn’t take long for UFC light heavyweight contender Glover Teixeira to pick up one of the biggest wins of his career in the main event of UFC on FOX 19 from Tampa, Florida, on Saturday night. The Brazilian finished former champion Rashad Evans less than two minutes into their five-round main event clash. Teixeira clipped him with a powerful left hand and followed that up with a handful of right hands, causing the referee to intervene and call the fight off.

What was the high point of the fight?

Well, it didn’t last long. Just a mere one minute, 48 seconds. So, there’s no doubt in my mind what was the high point of Teixeira vs. Evans — the huge bomb that Teixeira landed that wobbled Evans, and the rest of the finishing sequence. If you disagree with me, you’re probably wrong. Sorry.

Where do these two go from here?

After suffering back-to-back losses to Jon Jones and Phil Davis, many believed Teixeira was on his way out. But he has rebounded over the past year with three straight victories, and there’s no longer any doubt he’s still a top contender in the UFC light heavyweight division. Because the 205-pound division is rather shallow, I can see Teixeira being one win away from another title shot against the winner of Daniel Cormier vs. Jones/Ovince Saint Preux. He called out Anthony Johnson in his post-fight interview, and it seems like that’s the only fight that makes sense.

As far as Evans is concerned, I think it’s time for him to finally hang up the gloves. He’s had a legendary career which includes capturing the UFC belt and having multiple memorable feuds (Jones, Quinton Jackson, etc.), but he didn’t look good in his return fight last year against Ryan Bader and looked worse on Saturday night vs. Teixeira. From now on, he should stick with his position with FOX Sports as an analyst.
