On Friday’s edition of ShoBox: The New Generation, Louisiana’s Mason Menard hammered Eudy Bernardo with a right hand that may go down as 2016’s top boxing KO.
Under normal circumstances, writing about a Friday night ShoBox fight (in Verona, NY) between Mason Menard (31-1, 23 KOs) and Eudy Bernardo (21-1, 15 KOs) is not something we do around here, but exceptions can be made when you see the knockout that Menard delivered. You can watch the video for yourself at the top of the page.
The Louisiana lightweight stiffened his Dominican opponent with a walloping overhand right, which Bernardo moved directly towards, and the end result was Bernardo out cold before he hit the canvas. Bernardo fell almost exactly like Maurice Harris did when Derrick Jefferson clobbered him with his left hand, which took home Ring Magazine’s KOTY honors in 1999.
As the commentators noted, medical staff rushed to Bernardo’s aid and eventually took him out on a stretcher for precautionary reasons. Dmitriy Salita, former world title challenger at 140 lbs, and the promoter of Friday’s event, did provide some good news regarding Bernardo’s health.
