Round-by-round updates for Bellator 153, which features UFC crossover Benson Henderson vying for Andrey Koreshkov’s welterweight title, and free streaming video of the entire preliminary card.

Join us tonight on Bloody Elbow for live results, discussion and play-by-play as Bellator 153: Koreshkov vs Henderson takes place from the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.

With his belt on the line, reigning welterweight champion Andrey Koreshkov welcomes former UFC lightweight champion Ben Henderson to the Bellator cage in the headliner. Also on the card: recently unseated featherweight champion Patricio “Pitbull” Freire meets Henry Corrales (co-main event), welterweight Brennan Ward draws MMA vet Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos, electric welterweight prospect Michael “Venom” Page meets Jeremy Holloway and lightweights Brent Primus and Gleristone Santos square off.

Andrey Koreshkov vs. Benson Henderson (WW championship)

R1: Koreshkov closes distance, cautiously flinging outside low kicks. Double front-leg side kicks from Henderson. Koreshkov answers with a massive right high kick but it’s blocked. Koreshkov lands short on a right cross, then walks Henderson into a corner and throws another. Koreshkov catches a left kick from Henderson and flashes two rights in his face, knocking him off balance. Henderson gets back to his feet but eats a body kick to the ribs.

Sharp inside low kick from Koreshkov. Koreshkov has another high kick blocked but he buries a right hand deep into Henderson’s body. Now it’s an inside low kick and a step-in knee from the champ. Koreshkov walks him into a corner again and throws a flying right roundhouse kick and a right cross. Henderson gets on the board with a short right hand but Koreshkov finds his chin with a flying knee to close the round. 10-8 Koreshkov.

R2: Inside low kick from Koreshkov. No dice on Henderson’s takedown attempt but he does land a lead right hand to the thigh. Koreshkov throws a spinning high kick and still manages to stuff Henderson’s double leg attempt. Another flying knee from the champ, followed by a right to the body before shucking off another takedown attempt.

Henderson whiffs on a right hand but lands an inside low kick. Henderson continues to let himself be cornered, this time dodging a flurry and jogging out of range. Henderson lands a clean left. Koreshkov denies a clinch attempt but eats a lunging right hook to the body from Henderson. Outside low kick from Henderson. Glancing right hand from Koreshkov. 10-9 Koreshkov.

R3: Glancing counter uppercut lands for Koreshkov. Henderson with a straight left to the body. Koreshkov counters a Henderson knee with a left hook, then sprawls on a takedown. Henderson picks an ankle as Koreshkov widens his base on one knee. Front headlock for Koreshkov as Henderson continues to drive for the takedown. Henderson bails on the ankle pick and switches to a double but it allows Koreshkov to stand up.

Henderson lands a tricky up-elbow as Koreshkov gets wrist control, still resisting the takedown. Koreshkov circles off the fence and bombs two knees to the ribs of Henderson, then hammers one into his ribs as Henderson stands. Lead right to the body from Koreshkov, then a cleaving inside low kick. The champ ends he round with a spinning kick to the body. 10-9 Koreshkov.

R4: Koreshkov sprawls on a Henderson takedown, landing a light knee to the body as he’s standing back up. Outside low kick from “Spartan.” Henderson unloads a flurry to disguise a takedown attempt but Koreshkov stuffs in an under-hook to stop it. Henderson keeps him on the fence, throwing front kicks to the calf.

Koreshkov circles off the fence and separates. Henderson lands a low kick to the upper thigh but Koreshkov sits him down on his butt with a nasty right hand shortly after. Koreshkov goes to the front headlock, then to the front choke. Henderson squirms his way loose, landing an elbow on the break. 10-8 Koreshkov.

R5:

Henry Corrales vs. Patricio Freire

R1: Freire walks Corrales into a corner but can’t keep him there, then slips when throwing a left kick. Corrales backs him off with a two-punch combo, then tags him with a right to counter a low kick. Freire ducks a left hook and gets in on a takedown, switching to a waist lock to put Corrales on the fence. Freire drags him off the fence with a crafty trip, landing in full mount.

Freire smoothly transitions to an arm triangle on one side, then hops to the other with the hold locked. Freire lets it go to land left forearms to the face, still in full mount. Corrales shrimps against the fence, then uses it to stand up and separate. The crowd boos a short lull in the action to the close the round. 10-9 Freire.

R2: Freire, having somewhat frantically motioned to his corner after Round One ended, might have a rib injury according to commentator Jimmy Smith. “Pitbull” seems hesitant to engage and doesn’t commit to any punches through the first 90 seconds of the second, again drawing boos from the audience. Freire switches to southpaw and throws a left body kick. Corrales lands short with a right cross.

Corrales pivots on a Freire one-two and glances with a counter. Freire misses with a flying knee, then ducks a left and nails a single leg. Closed guard for Corrales with good posture control; Freire backs out, then cinches on a tight guillotine and jumps guard. Corrales taps.

Evangelista Santos vs. Brennan Ward

R1: Ward catches a kick and knocks Santos off-balance with a right cross, then slips behind him to the rear waist cinch. Santos rolls into a kneebar and straightens it out, then switches to a heel hook, quickly forcing the tapout.

Brent Primus vs. Gleristone Santos

R1: Santos plugs Primus with a right cross and he goes down. Primus pops back up and closes range but gets thumped with another right. They clinch and Primus puts Santos on the fence, hitting an outside trip; Santos sweeps him as soon as they hit the mat. Primus goes rubber guard and starts working an omoplata but Santos is wise to it and they separate.

Primus sticks with the straight-line attack and tries to wade through the heavy punches of Santos. Primus shoots a double but Santos stays upright with a whizzer. Santos pivots on a Primus rush to thwart another clinch attempt. Inside low kick lands for Santos. Primus forces a clinch and Santos circles off the fence, then separates. Santos whiffs on a spinning roundhouse kick. Light outside low kick lands for Primus, who stays outside and starts working a jab. 10-9 Santos.

R2: Primus stays with a more measured pace and starts to find success in standing exchanges. Santos goes southpaw and buries a left into the body, then goes back to orthodox and starts closing left/right combos with kicks. A Santos inside low kick catches a small portion of Primus’ cup and we take a short break.

Two more glancing inside low kicks from Santos on the restart. No dice on Primus’ takedown attempt. Primus lands a counter right during a Santos low kick, then glances with an overhand right. Santos fires a right back and closes the round with a pair of flurries, both ending with right body kicks. 10-9 Santos.

R3: Primus shoots a double but Santos reverses him somewhat easily. Santos postures up with a few rights and Primus uses the extra space to escape to his feet. A spinning back fist from Primus blasts into the guard of Santos and he follows it with a right hand. Santos uncorks a clean one-two in response. Primus lands an outside low kick, shelling on Santos’ counter flurry.

Primus forces a clinch but Santos shoves him away and circles out. Primus shoots a double and Santos retracts his hips, then circles away. They trade right hands and Santos follows with another left/right combo that closes with a right kick, this time a high kick that’s partially blocked. Primus shoots a double with no set up but gets deep on the hips and finishes it. Santos rolls into his guard and Primus moves to half guard with a leg cradled. Primus flattens him out in half guard, looking to mount. Santos rolls into a belly-down heel hook but Primus avoids it, then lands a hard right hand. 10-9 Primus. I have it 29-28 Santos.

Jeremie Holloway vs. Michael Page

R1: Holloway charges Page immediately and ends up sprinting into a straight right that drops him. Holloway recovers with a counter single but Page backs off and lets him up. Page starts cutting lateral angles and working a jab. Holloway forces him into a corner and onto the fence a minute deep, fishing for a body lock. Page gets a low base and hand-fights to defend. Page takes an errant knee below the belt and we pause briefly while he recovers.

Page gets in a crouched, closed stance and belts Holloway with another right cross, blasting him off-balance and then snapping his head down from the Thai plum. Holloway rolls into a leg lock and Page sits up and back with a straight ankle lock, forcing Holloway to tap out adamantly. The replay reveals the catch to be a toe hold.
