Former UFC fighter and ex-WSOF welterweight champion Rousimar Palhares is claiming that he was KO’d by illegal strikes by Emil Weber Meek in the Venator FC 3 main event.
It’s not a Rousimar Palhares fight without some sort of post-fight controversy. When he wins, there’s plenty of uproar over his repeated holding onto submissions after referee intervention. In fact, he’s suspended for 2 years by the NAC for this exact offense, in addition to the eye-gouging in his fight vs. Jake Shields. When he loses, as he did to Nate Marquardt, he makes greasing accusations.
Enter last Saturday’s stunning knockout loss to Emil Weber Meek at Venator FC 3. Palhares’ undefeated welterweight run came to an abrupt end when the Norwegian slammed home some big elbows whilst defending a takedown, then ended the fight in just 45 seconds with a series of right hands. For a refresher, here are multiple angles of the finish. (Via Zombie Prophet)

In an interview with MMA Fighting, Palhares claims that Meek’s elbows illegally struck the back of his head, and he continues to feel dizzy from the effects of the strikes.
“What went wrong in the fight is that I was hit with illegal elbows in the back of the head and couldn’t see anything next,” Palhares said. “When I was hit, I went out. I couldn’t even understand what happened. I kept asking my corners what happened, because I felt a strike in the back of my head and then I just saw the referee in front of me, and felt the pain in the back of my head. I was upset because I didn’t fight and they let him continue after the first strike in the back of the head. I wasn’t in the fight anymore after it.”
“I will only know my next step after I get the MRI done because sometimes I feel I’m going to black out,” he continued. “I feel dizzy when I look down. I’m not used to getting hit in the back of the head. I don’t blame the guy that fought me, but the referee shouldn’t let it continue. I’m strong, you know, and I still went out. Imagine if it’s someone else, someone not well prepared as I am? People could die.”
Palhares, who has been knocked out in all of his last 4 losses, plans to appeal the defeat and get the result overturned to a no contest. For the record, he’s still under WSOF contract (per Ray Sefo), although fighting outside of the US while under NAC suspension will make it a lot harder for him to compete stateside any time soon.
