Speculation has it that a fight between two of MMA’s most well – known personalities, Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather, is ultimately inevitable and bound to happen sometime in the very near future. While it seems like a feverishly exciting prospect, there is no solid evidence (or any evidence at all for that matter) to believe that this matchup is actually going to take place in real life. We hate to be the bearer of bad news, but we must suggest that you do not buy into the hype and believe the word going around and get your hopes and expectations up because it is not likely that this super fight will actually transpire.
The hot air surrounding the hypothetical fight is propelled and further promoted by several online news articles claiming they have breaking news about the super fight while in reality they are just using such headlines as click baits. Having gone through dozens of such “breaking news” articles, it is safe to say, that it is nothing but a pie in the sky.
Thankfully, there are a lot of level headed, rational people out there who are not so naïve as to buy into this speculation and the question they are asking is – why is the MMA fan base so fixated on coming up with fantasy matchups involving Mayweather?
According to MMA columnist and expert Ben Fowlkes, all the hype is simply because Mayweather Vs McGregor would be like something out of a movie and people do not care whether it may actually happen or not, they continue to talk about it like it will happen any moment now. In fact some even take it one step further and get into heated arguments about how the fight would play out.
Furthermore, if you think about it, most fighters in the UFC these days are kind of generic – background in Jiu Jitsu, kickboxing or wrestling, same old same old. However, when it comes to Mayweather people are nostalgic about his boxing and can relate to it on some Rocky Balboa level. On the other hand, Conor McGregor is a breath of fresh air in terms of personality and speculation himself. Thus, it is rather conceivable that fans match up the two and talk about it as a “superfight”.
