Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has taken a plea deal from prosecutors in his drag-racing related case. Jones was pulled over on March 24th and was issued five citations after the police officer accused him of drag racing. Jones was then arrested for probation violation and was booked into jail shortly after that.
Jones pleaded guilty to unlawful use of modification of exhaust systems and improper display of registration plate in Albuquerque on Thursday morning. The other charges, which included unlawful drag racing, unlawful exhibition driving and failure to maintain traffic lane, were thrown out due to the plea deal.
Now, Jones will have to complete aggressive driving school, comply with any previous driving restrictions, complete 60 hours of community service and pay a fine of $143. Oh, by the way, Jones cannot violate any laws in that time.
TMZ was the first to report the news.
Jones is currently out of action as he recently tested positive estrogen blockers prior to his fight with Daniel Cormier at UFC 200 back in July and is facing a two-year suspension from active MMA competition. While the plea deal for his most recent case is good news for Jones, he still needs to turn his life around and come back to MMA as a changed man. Jones is arguably the best fighter in the world and is talented, but if you can’t fight in the cage, then you’re just wasting talent.
