Dana White: Rousey’s return will top Diaz-McGregor PPV numbers

The UFC president predicts that Ronda Rousey’s return to the Octagon will be ‘the biggest pay-per-view’ ever.

Step aside Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz, because Ronda Rousey is coming to shatter your pay-per-view records.

That’s according to Dana White, who claimed that ‘Rowdy’s’ return to the sport will be bigger than both Diaz-McGregor fights and will smash the promotion’s current PPV records.

UFC 100 and UFC 196 are the highest grossing pay-per-views to date –1.6 and 1.5 million buys– and it’s estimated that UFC 202, which featured the welterweight rematch between Diaz and McGregor in the main event, is the third most successful event in the promotion’s history.

Per UFC, UFC 202 was third biggest PPV in company history, behind UFC 196 and 100. In other words, McGregor + Diaz = Ca$h Money.

Rousey, who was often portrayed as the Mike Tyson of the women’s bantamweight division, looked unstoppable until she met Holly Holm at UFC 193. The former Olympian lost her 135-pound title after being knocked out via head kick in the 2nd round, and has largely shied away from the media since the defeat.

Despite this, however, Rousey has maintained her presence in Hollywood and her last two PPV events secured 1 million buys each.

There’s no doubt that Rousey is one of the UFC’s flagship stars, but Dana White believes her return to the Octagon will break all the records.

“Yes,” White said on ‘The Herd’ yesterday (h/t MMA Junkie) when asked if Rousey’s return fight would be more successful than UFC 196 and UFC 202.” “I think that Ronda Rousey’s return will be the biggest pay-per-view we’ve ever done.”

Rousey was expected to return for the highly anticipated UFC 205 card on Nov. 12, which will see the fighters make their debut in New York at Madison Square Garden arena, but White recently shot down the idea and said the former champion will not be competing at the event.

Amanda Nunes is the current women’s BW champ, but is an unlikely competitor to exceed 1.5 million pay-per-view buys. Unless Rousey returns against ‘Cyborg’, it’s going to be difficult for the 29-year-old to top the highly successful Diaz-McGregor bouts.
