Fast rising Strikeforce light-heavyweight Ovince St. Preux (9-4), who is fresh of a December 4th win, will step back into the cage next month against Abongo Humphrey (7-2) at the upcoming Strikeforce Challengers show.
Strikeforce spokesman Mike Afromowitz informed ESPN.com about the fight on Tuesday.
The Strikeforce Challengers event will take place on January 7th in Nashville, Tenn. and will be headlined by a welterweight bout between Tyron Woodley vs. Tarec Saffiedine. The main card will air on Showtime at 11PM EST (11PM PST via tape delay).
St. Preux earned his sixth straight win at the Strikeforce: Henderson vs. Babalu II show earlier this month after defeating Benji Radach by unanimous decision. The sixth win was also his sixth fight of 2010, and with the January bout will total seven fights in under a years time.
In that six fight streak, St. Preux earned two unanimous decisions, and four T(KO) wins. So far he’s fought three times under the Strikeforce banner earning wins over Radach, Antwain Britt in November, and Chris Hawk in his promotional debut last April.
Humphrey meanwhile, looks to bounce back from a submission loss to Mike Kyle at a previous Chalalengers eevnt in July. He’ll be making his fourth straight Strikeforce appearance and has a 1-2 record so far with the promotion after winning six straight T(KO) victories. Humphrey earned a submission win over George Bush III at a Challengers 7 event in March, and was TKO’d by Brett Rogers at the Strikeforce: Shamrock vs. Diaz event in April of last year.
