Dana White: Dan Henderson is ‘built out of leather and rock’

UFC president Dana White had nothing but praise for Dan Henderson and his performance on Saturday night at UFC 204.

Like many big-named fighters, Dan Henderson had his differences with the UFC. So much so that his spat with the company and Dana White regarding video game royalties and apparel sponsor issues among others, had led him to jump ship and ink a deal with Strikeforce in late 2009.

But on Saturday night, he managed to end his storied career on a high note through his performance in his UFC 204 rematch against Michael Bisping. While he did not get the judges’ nod, he did earn the respect and admiration of many, including Dana White.

“Dan Henderson, I tweeted during the fight that he’s built out of leather and rock, man,” White told FOX Sports 2 (via MMA Fighting). “The guy is so durable, so tough, was in the fight the whole time. I never pictured that thing being a competitive five-round fight. I thought Henderson might catch him early, like he did, or Bisping would just pick him apart and be too fast for him throughout the fight. It was a damn good fight.”

“Hendo” may not have been able to bag the last piece of accomplishment to make his 19-year MMA run more legendary, but he was able to prove that at his age, he is still able to hang with today’s toughest fighters in the UFC’s 185-pound division. It is something that White had also given major props to.

“At his age now — what is he, is he 46? — he’s 46; I’m 47, I can barely get on a treadmill in the morning, let alone go in and fight five-round main events in another country. Dan Henderson is an absolute warrior, one of the toughest guys to ever do it, and he’s still scary at this age and everything.

“If he didn’t want to retire today, he’s still scary to people in that division.”
