Donald Cerrone & Matt Brown verbally agree to fight at UFC 206 in Toronto

Donald Cerrone vs. Matt Brown is in the works for UFC 206 next month.

Donald Cerrone wasn’t left without a fight for long. The possibility of fighting on the biggest stage ever — Madision Square Garden in New York City — escaped Cerrone’s life Friday morning when his scheduled opponent, Kelvin Gastelum, was unable to make weight for their pivotal welterweight contest.

But the UFC matchmakers got down to business immediately, and “Cowboy” already has another opponent for a later date.

According to FOXSports.com’s Damon Martin, Cerrone and Matt Brown have verbally agreed to fight each other at UFC 206 next month. A bout agreement has yet to be finalized nor has the UFC confirmed the news at this time.

Cerrone moved up to the welterweight division after a failed bid for the lightweight belt last year and has since picked up three straight victories: a submission over Alex Oliveira and two knockouts over Patrick Cote and Rick Story.

Brown finds himself in a must-win situation going into UFC 206. Once in the title mix at 170-pounds, “The Immortal” is on a two-fight skid and has lost the last four of five. In his last fight, he got stopped by Jake Ellenberger at UFC 201 in July.

Brown was booked to fight Tarec Saffiedine at UFC 207 late next month. It appears that the UFC will pair Saffiedine up with a new opponent, per the report.

UFC 206 takes place live from Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ont., on Dec. 10. In the main event, UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier fights Anthony Johnson in a rematch.
