Conor ‘Double Champ’ McGregor opens as early underdog for potential Tyron Woodley UFC welterweight title fight
Conor McGregor is coming off a historic win over Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205, defeating “The Underground King” via knockout (watch full video replay here) to claim the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Lightweight title, adding it to the mantle that also holds his Featherweight strap. However, the first-ever UFC “double champ” isn’t getting any love from the oddsmakers (via Oddsshark), predicting that when it comes to a potential — perhaps even more historic — title fight against current Welterweight champion, Tyron Woodley, things more than likely won’t go his way.
“Notorious” has been pegged as a +125 underdog should the bout ever go down as “The Chosen One,” who is the -155 favorite. Of course, the bout is currently in Stage Dreamland, which means it’s not remotely close to even being discussed. That hasn’t stopped at least one of his coaches from pleading McGregor’s case to get a crack at become the first man to ever hold three titles in as many division’s at the same time.
Unfathomable.
As for McGregor, he will take a break from the fight game until at least May 2017, preparing to welcome his first child into the world next year. Once he’s ready to return, you can bet there will be a bevy of contenders at both 145- and 155-pounds chomping at the bit to get a crack at one of his two titles. Chief among them is Khabib Nurmagomedov, who had a run-in McGregor backstage at UFC 205.
Speaking of run-ins, McGregor also flapped gums with the aforementioned Woodley during the UFC 205 festivities in New York City, further adding fuel to the fire that the Irishman is eyeing a bout against him.
