UFC Melbourne preview: Derek Brunson finishes fights, is ready for middleweight title shot

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight contender Robert Whittaker has been talking a lot about his fast hands and underrated power ahead of the UFC Fight Night 101 mixed martial arts (MMA) event on FOX Sports 1, which takes place this Saturday (Nov. 26, 2016) inside Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

Don’t worry, opponent Derek Brunson has been listening.

“I’ve got five wins in a row, four first-round finishes in a row,” Brunson said. “I’ve been hearing Robert Whittaker predict that he’s gonna take me out in the first round. I believe my past four opponents said they were gonna take me out in the first round, and we all know how that went. Whittaker is in for a bad night. I’m gonna put one on his chin and send him to the canvas.”

Fight fire with fire.

Brunson (16-3) is fresh off his technical knockout win over Uriah Hall at the UFC Fight Night 94 event last September in Hidalgo, Texas. It was his fifth victory in a row, which is the same as Whittaker (16-4) after the Aussie outworked Rafael Natal back in April.

There can only be one.

“I wanna go out there, get my hand raised,” Brunson continued. “Look over at Dana White and start reaching for my waist and say, ‘Hey, I think I’m ready for that title shot.’”

Time will tell.
