Midnight Mania! Cyborg tests positive, Rousey blocks Nunes … on Instagram

Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every night …

Welcome to Midnight Mania! Where Cyborg has tested positive (again), Ronda Rousey has blocked Amanda Nunes on Instagram, Dominick Cruz decides he wants to do drugs, a high school wrestler RKOs an opponent, and more.

You possibly have heard that Cyborg popped positive for… Spironolactone? I don’t know what that is either.

I don’t know anything about Spironolactone beyond that it sounds like a delicious Greek dish.

— Tommy Toe Hold (@TommyToeHold) December 23, 2016

For some real information:

Ray Elbe says Cris Cyborg’s potential violation came from Spironolactone. Unfortunately, that’s a banned substance. Clearly stated, too.

UFC statement on Cyborg after USADA potential doping violation: https://t.co/eCWHSk9ceC

— Luke Thomas (@SBNLukeThomas) December 22, 2016

UFC’s statement doesn’t say much, as they rarely do. BE reporter Iain Kidd explained what the medical codes in her official statement stand for:

Cris’s issues: Viral meningitis, ovarian cysts, protein malnutrition, diabetes, stress, thyroiditis, low potassium, electrolyte imbalance.

— Iain Kidd (@iainkidd) December 22, 2016

He also explained how different parts of Cyborg’s story don’t add up.

Prescribing spironolactone to treat low potassium in someone so dehydrated their blood can’t be drawn doesn’t make sense. Safer ways. https://t.co/TBF1LHCsYU

— Iain Kidd (@iainkidd) December 22, 2016

So.. Cris was anemic, hypokalemic, leukopenic & had electrolyte imbalance. Diagnosed by blood test. On day her blood was too thick to draw.

— Iain Kidd (@iainkidd) December 23, 2016

Untruthful fighter camp or dangerously incompetent doctor. Or both. Pick your poison. https://t.co/bdWHD1w3kj

— Iain Kidd (@iainkidd) December 23, 2016

If we assume everything Cris said about her weight-cut affecting her kidneys & leaving her dehydrated on Monday is a lie, her story adds up.

— Iain Kidd (@iainkidd) December 23, 2016

There is a lot that remains to be seen. Cyborg’s rep is claiming she has a doctor’s prescription for this substance (which is still banned). Dana White thinks the whole situation is strange. However, a retroactive Theraputic Use Exemption? That would be pretty wild.

Shit’s gonna go crazy in the MMA anti-drug sphere if Cyborg gets granted a retroactive TUE.

— Zane Simon (@TheZaneSimon) December 22, 2016

It’s certainly not a good look for Cyborg, and now the UFC faces the crazy proposition of having a women’s featherweight division finally in play with it’s main star completely out of the picture for up to a year.

USADA is coming for everyone these days. Arlovksi is ready though:

USADA would be no match for Andrei Arlovski. pic.twitter.com/TmpDYXBEZd

— Josh Sánchez (@jnsanchez) December 15, 2016

According to Twitter user MUNCHmma, Arlovski was acting in the show Limitless here. I don’t know about his acting chops, but he certainly looks the part.

Where is Ronda Rousey’s head at?

According to Nunes, Ronda Rousey has unfollowed and blocked her (given she can’t see Rousey’s feed). Along with the nature of her knockout, her MMA media silence, and Rousey’s insistence on sticking with a very, very questionable trainer, it forms a picture where one can call into question Rousey’s mental state.

Make sure you tune into UFC 207. It may or may not be Ronda Rousey’s last Octagon appearance.

Speaking of drugs…

Um… Dominick…

Yes! Teach me how to do speed bro! Let’s connect after my fight https://t.co/7LTQn1lJfb

— Dominick Cruz (@DominickCruz) December 23, 2016

“Teach me how to do speed bro” might not be the greatest line.

Dominick Cruz doesn’t need speed. To prove it, here’s all your UFC 207 free fights. Enjoy!

This was an insane kickboxing fight, especially the second round. Some are calling it the kickboxing fight of the year.

Trash talk in 2016 had some pretty memorable moments.

2016 was one of the best year’s of Trash Talk we’ve ever seen! HERE are our favorite moments pic.twitter.com/4m52NNsJi5

— UFC (@ufc) December 22, 2016

They left out Nate’s best lines though, including the “touch-butt with that dork in the park” line.

No, I’ve never suplexed someone to safety, Jack.

Ever suplex someone to safety? https://t.co/KquDHYU2jV

Lawler is awesome. Still hoping for that Lawler-Diaz rematch in 2017.

.@cainmma Velasquez is the hardest hitter at #UFC207.
A KO of Werdum in the rematch would justify a title shot.
