MMA’s nicest kid apparently has an open invitation to go train with the bad boys of the sport.
Could Sage Northcutt actually train with the Diaz Brothers? They seem like polar opposites but apparently the offer is on the table for him to train with Nick and Nate in the future, as strange as that may seem. In an appearance on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Northcutt confirmed it himself:
“They mentioned getting some training together in the future so we’ll see if that happens. They were just super nice guys so it was cool to meet them.”
Northcutt (8-2, 3-2 UFC) is still just 20 years old. The much-hyped prospect hasn’t exactly been out of this world in the Octagon so far, winning just three of his five UFC bouts. To be fair though, both of his losses came in the welterweight division, a weight class that Northcutt is clearly too small for.
The Texan has been training with 170-pound champ Tyron Woodley of late, and recently mentioned in an appearance on UFC Tonight that he had dropped out of school to train full time with “the champ”.
When asked what he’s working on to get better in the cage, he stated that his mental game was something he was addressing:
“I’m not taking my time and not being calm. I’m still trying to figure out being calm.”
I’m sure that Nick and Nate could offer him something that might help out in that area a bit.
