Conor McGregor slams ‘fake’ Georges St-Pierre: You joined MMAAA because you couldn’t get the UFC deal you wanted
Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre sent shockwaves through the mixed martial arts (MMA) community when he partnered with ex-Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney to found the Mixed Martial Arts Athletes Association (MMAAA).
During last November’s press conference, St-Pierre named UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor as an example of fighter who can make million-dollar paydays (like this) and still get shafted by the promotion.
“I’m watching this union thing, it’s like a press conference, and I’m like, what the fuck is going on here? They’re standing up, they’re all wearing the same t-shirt. They’re saying, ‘Conor, please. Conor, please, you know what’s right. Help us out, Conor.’ And Georges [St-Pierre] is saying, ‘Conor’s a good person. I know he gets paid well, but he doesn’t get paid enough.’ And I’m like, what the fuck are you talking about? The only reason you’re standing in the middle of that union is because you (St-Pierre) couldn’t get the deal you want. You’re the fakest of everyone up there.”
It’s no secret that “Rush” was negotiating a deal to bring himself back to the Octagon. It was a secret deal, but a deal nonetheless. Or maybe “Notorious” was referring to the exorbitant asking price for a St-Pierre vs. McGregor super fight (see that number here).
