Let’s try this again.
Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans will once again attempt to make his debut in the promotion’s middleweight division after being medically disqualified at both UFC 205 and UFC 206.
More on that fiasco here.
Waiting to greet him at the upcoming UFC 209 pay-per-view (PPV) event, scheduled for Sat., March 11, 2017 inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, is aging Australian middleweight Dan Kelly.
MMA Fighting brought word of the match up on Wednesday.
Evans (19-5-1) was forced to abandon his post at 205 pounds after Glover Teixiera smashed him at UFC on FOX 19 last April. “Suga” dropped four of his last six and continues to struggle with injuries.
Kelly (12-1), meanwhile, is riding a three-fight winning streak and now stands at an impressive 5-1 under the UFC banner. He was last seen taking a unanimous decision win over Chris Camozzi at UFC Fight Night 101 back in November.
Who ya’ got?
UFC 209 will feature the championship rematch between welterweight titleholder Tyron Woodley and top 170-pound contender Stephen Thompson, who left the division on hold after battling to a five-round draw at UFC 205 last November.
More on that fight here.
In the UFC 209 co-main event, undefeated lightweight phenom Khabib Nurmagomedov puts his perfect record on the line — as well as the right to challenge Conor McGregor for the 155-pound strap — against streaking veteran Tony Ferguson.
