Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White insists his lightweight champion, Conor McGregor, will NOT fight retired boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a boxing vs. mixed martial arts (MMA) crossover fight.
“Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather have agreed to a deal to fight and have both settled on their respective fees,” a source close to “Notorious” told the Irish Sun. “The contract hasn’t officially been signed yet because of a third party hold-up, but all the details have been agreed on.”
In addition, Mayweather told ESPN that his oft-teased McGregor showdown is “very, very close” while attending last Saturday’s Golden State Warriors-Oklahoma City Thunder basketball game.
While his combat sports brethren believe this is nothing more than a publicity stunt, White has gone on record to make a legitimate offer to Mayweather, though each side has a different idea of who brings what to the table, at least in terms of revenue.
