Derrick Lewis broke his foot in fight with Travis Browne

Lewis may have won his UFC Fight Night 105 fight against Browne, but he didn’t come out unscathed.

Derrick Lewis made quite an impression on MMA fans this past weekend when he came back from a difficult first round to knock out Travis Brown at UFC Fight Night 105. It wasn’t just the win that got people talking, either. During his victory interview, he yelled out “Where’s Ronda Rousey’s fine ass at?” And despite the UFC removing that part of his speech from the internet and replays, the fans are carrying the message far and wide.

But if you’re looking forward to seeing “The Black Beast” in the cage again soon, you’re going to be disappointed. Lewis had an extremely active 2016, fighting four times and earning four wins. After his first fight of 2017, he’s looking forward to some time off.

“I need a break,” he told Brian Stann after his win over Browne. “Fighting every other month, every two months like that has put me in a bad mood at home with my family. So I just feel like I need some time off. I don’t wanna hear nothing about no fighting in the next three months.”

The MMA Gods must have heard his plea, because they went ahead and gave him a break … a broken foot, specifically. Lewis got the news earlier today and put up a video as the doctors inspected the damage to his leg.

“You ended up beating him in the second, that’s pretty tough, my friend!” the doctor explains as he works on Derrick’s foot.

“Nah” Lewis replies. “I’ve been in tougher fights.”

So it looks like Derrick is going to get that time off for sure, now. With a lot of time off his feet, whether he wants it or not.
