“The Motown Phenom” and “The Maverick” will meet in the main event of UFC Fight Night: Oklahoma City on Sunday, June 25th.
The UFC’s return to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma will feature a pair of first-time headliners. Following a Wednesday report from Ariel Helwani, Adam Hill of the Las Vegas Review-Journal confirmed on Thursday that lightweights Kevin Lee and Michael Chiesa are set for the UFC Fight Night main event on Sunday, June 25th at the Chesapeake Energy Arena. The night’s main card airs live on Fox Sports 1.
Chiesa (14-2) has been out of action for almost a full year, having suffered a ruptured disc during fight preparation for his UFC Sioux Falls main event against Tony Ferguson. The TUF 15 winner is on a three-fight winning streak, with his last victory coming by rear-naked choke against Beneil Dariush in April. He also holds wins over Jim Miller and Mitch Clarke.
Lee (15-2) is undefeated in his last four bouts, including a rear-naked choke win over Francisco Trinaldo at UFC Fortaleza earlier this month. “The Motown Phenom” rebounded from a poor start to halt Trinaldo’s seven-fight winning streak. Lee’s also beaten Magomed Mustafaev, Jake Matthews, and Efrain Escudero on his way to becoming the #11 ranked UFC lightweight contender. Now he gets a big matchup with the #7-ranked Chiesa.
Other feature bouts set for UFC Fight Night: Chiesa vs. Lee are middleweights Johny Hendricks and Tim Boetsch, featherweights B.J. Penn and Dennis Siver, and light heavyweights Ilir Latifi and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira.
