Midnight Mania! Fighter knocks out referee with spinning backfist

Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight …

Welcome to Midnight Mania! Tonight, we’ve got a fighter turning a referee’s lights out with a wild backfist, Gunnar Nelson’s coach calling out “Wonderboy” Stephen Thompson, Ben Henderson teaching his kid to wrestle, Shane McMahon stealing Jon Jones’ moves, knockouts and submissions from the weekend, and much more

Insomnia

Mike Jackson (the original UFC opponent of Mickey Gall) uncovered this gem on the international Muay Thai circuit. The referee was standing just a bit too close to the action, and he and paid for it. One of the fighters spun for a backfist that missed, catching the ref right on the kisser. It was lights out for the unfortunate official, who went down hard.

Bobs and Weaves

“King Mo” won his rematch with “Fat” Rampage, and now will fight Ryan Bader in New York City on the stacked Bellator 180 pay-per-view (PPV) event. My question is, who made this crown for him and how much did it cost? Asking for all royalty everywhere.

A King and his crown. Congrats @KingMoFH, we’ll see you in NYC. #Bellator175 pic.twitter.com/WG2Fw4EBxD

This callout of Stephen Thompson by John Kavanagh on behalf on Gunnar Nelson is … well, it’s different. Thompson said he wanted a Top 5-ranked fighter, but Lawler and Cowboy have been rebooked (which is still fun on a bun). I would be excited to watch Nelson vs. Thompson for the style clash, but it also seems a recipe for a slow-paced staring contest.

This picture of Nelson as Gunni Bear also reminds me of how badly the sugar-free version will mess you up.

So ruthless and cowboy booked…who for the GunniBear so?? Im still saying the karate kid for some spinning sh*t #ufcfightweek what say u? pic.twitter.com/liUHBfcHWv
