ADCC North American trials features cash prizes and major superfights

Saturday, April 15th is the first opportunity for North American grapplers to earn a place in the ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championships set for Finland later on this year. Not only are the best grapplers convening at the Anaheim Convention Center, but the stage is set for a number of spectacular super fights featuring some of the biggest names in the sport today.

Seven competitors will secure an all-expenses paid trip to compete in Finland in September. To go along with the trip, cash prizes are up for grabs for those that finish in first, second, and third at $1,500, $1,000, and $500 respectively. This event will also include women’s divisions for athletes looking to earn a shot at a world title in 2017. ADCC is widely considered the premiere grappling event in the sport today; an event that brings together the toughest names available in the sport that have won their way in or earned a special invitation.

“The ADCC is like our Olympic games,” Braulio Estima said as reported by Riccardo Ammendolia of FloGrappling. “Leandro Lo, in my opinion, is the best competitor out there, and I am a big fan of his. We both have a very open game, and the match should be an amazing show. I am very excited.”

The big draw of this weekend’s event includes a series of super fights. New Bellator MMA signee and multiple-time world champion Rafael Lovato Jr. faces off against 2013 ADCC champion Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida. Former UFC and World Series of Fighting athlete, Vinny Magalhaes is competing against 2013 ADCC absolute champion Roberto “Cyborg” Abreu. EBI Champion Geo Martinez is set to face 2011 Pan American champion Bruno Frazzato and Leandro Lo competes against multiple-time Braulio Estima.

Each one of these athletes are coming off of some recent success, which makes these fights that much more intriguing. Martinez defeated Eddie Cummings via submission back at EBI 10 back in December to earn what is the biggest win of his career at this point. Lo is looking to rebound off of a bad performance at FIVE Super League earlier this year that stalled some of the momentum he created with 2017 kicked off. Estima, Almeida, Abreu and Lovato Jr. are staples in the grappling world and big names for mainstream fans. Magalhaes continues his run in the grappling space since returning to the sport full time.
