Jon Jones or Jimi Manuwa? Daniel Cormier wants to know ‘which one of ‘em gon’ get it’ at UFC 214

UFC is still trying to figure out whether Daniel Cormier will fight Jon Jones or Jimi Manuwa at UFC 214 on July 29, 2017. As far as Cormier is concerned, either is fine with him.

It looks like UFC 214 on July 29, 2017, in Anaheim, Calif., will feature a UFC Light Heavyweight title defense from current champion Daniel Cormier. The only question: Who is Cormier going to defend it against? Fresh off his UFC 210 victory over Anthony Johnson, “DC” is already looking forward to his next fight.

Cormier and U.K. knockout artist Jimi Manuwa have been going back-and-forth over Twitter since Daniel mocked Manuwa’s resume during his post-fight speech at UFC 210. On Monday morning, it seemed like Jimi’s taunting of Cormier may have led to a fight. After demanding Cormier ‘accept the fight’, Cormier replied ‘I did! I’ll smash you any day, bum!’

But, later that night, Dana White told ESPN that the promotion is still hoping to put Cormier up against returning ex-champ Jon Jones at UFC 214. If Jones decides he wants a tune up fight beforehand, Manuwa will get a shot.

“If Jon Jones is ready to fight [by UFC 214] on July 29, we’ll see the Jones versus Cormier rematch finally,” White said. He also confirmed that Cormier had indeed accepted a match against Manuwa, and is willing to fight either one.

So now all eyes turn to Jon Jones, and we’re left wondering why he wouldn’t be ready to fight this summer after his 12 month USADA suspension ends. Or, maybe that’s just Dana-speak for ‘isn’t ready to fight Daniel Cormier after so much time off.’

Considering how rusty he looked against Ovince Saint Preux in April 2016, maybe it would be smart for Jones to “get his sea legs back” as Cormier called it on Twitter. But, with UFC looking to finally get a rematch between Cormier and Jones over with, we’re sure we know what they’d prefer to see.
