Anderson Silva’s potential UFC 212 opponents get stranger as June quickly approaches

According to Brazilian outlet Combate, the UFC is considering Ovince St-Preux at a 195 pound catchweight for Anderson Silva’s UFC 212 opponent.

Two weeks ago the UFC went down to Rio de Janeiro to hold a media day for UFC 212, set to be held in the Brazilian city on June 3rd. In attendance: headlining featherweight champ Jose Aldo and interim champ Max Holloway, plus a number of other fighters on the card. Anderson Silva was there as well, but unfortunately his opponent was not. That’s because the guy he was originally slated to fight, Kelvin Gastelum, ended up testing positive for marijuana metabolites and was pulled from the fight.

Anderson Silva ended up getting in front of the media and jokingly facing off against himself. But seriously, the UFC promised they were working on other options for “The Spider.” But with Anderson turning down Luke Rockhold, options are dwindling and strange possibilities are beginning to appear in the press.

According to Brazilian outlet Combate, the UFC is considering a 195 pound catchweight fight for Silva against Ovince St-Preux, who just beat Marcos Rogerio de Lima last week at UFC Fight Night 108 in Nashville. Also a possibility: that Kelvin Gastelum could be re-added to the card after he somehow clears up his failed drug test. How likely is this? Well, the UFC is floating the possibility, right?

None of this sounds particularly interesting to us … we much prefer Anderson’s suggestion that he and Nick Diaz do battle again, as their last fight (initially won by Anderson on the scorecards) was ruled a No Contest after both fighters failed post fight drug tests. You could argue it doesn’t make much sense, but what could make less sense than fighting OSP at a catchweight?
