Stipe Miocic on his issues with UFC pay scale: ‘We’re good’

After successfully defending his Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Heavyweight title for the first time against Alistair Overeem at UFC 203 last September, Stipe Miocic turned from happy to sour after the official payouts and salaries were released.

That’s because Overeem — who has yet to win a UFC title — took home a whopping $800,000 in defeat to Stipe’s $600,000.

But it seems all of Miocic’s financial issues with the WME-IMG-owned fight company have been straightened out ahead of his next title defense against Junior dos Santos, which is set to go down at UFC 211 on May 13, 2017 in Dallas, Texas (details here).

While it was evident the hard-hitting bruiser didn’t want to get into specifics, it seems his numbers are correct this time around.

“Well, I’m fighting on May 13, aren’t I? So, we’re good, that’s all I got to say,” proclaimed Miocic during a recent media conference call (audio replay here), promoting his title fight rematch against “Cigano.”

Over the last couple of years, more and more fighters have stepped up to express their disappointment with various issues plaguing the promotion regarding pay, respect, and matchmaking.

And while there are still plenty of issues to be ironed out between promoter and fighter (like this one and this one), it seems the heavyweight champion’s financial disputes, at least for now, have been take care of.
