Jorge Masvidal is putting out a “viewer discretion is advised” disclaimer ahead of his much-anticipated Welterweight scrap against Demian Maia, which is set to go down this weekend (Sat., May 13, 2017) at UFC 211 in Dallas, Texas. That’s because “Gamebred” is giving his upcoming bout a “XXX” rating because of all of the violence, the likes of which has never before been seen inside the Octagon
“What’s coming on May 13, people ain’t ready for. If this was being sold on DVD’s, you would make a half-an-hour line to get this DVD. Cause it’s going to be brutal,” Masvidal recently told Fox Sports. “If you don’t like seeing violence, don’t [expletive] tune in May 13. Cause what’s coming on May 13 is going to be violent. It’s going to be some [expletive]. The same way I told you about the “Cowboy” fight, it’s going to be violent. This is not PG-13. This is not rated ‘R.’ This is ‘XXX.’ If you don’t like those types of films, don’t tune in May 13. That’s all I’m going to say.”
I failed to adhere to the warning before tuning in to a “Faces of Death” VHS when I was a kid, and I haven’t been the same since. Masvidal, though, is giving everyone a fair warning, which also goes to Maia, who was recently criticized by current division champion Tyron Woodley for accepting the “stupid” fight against “Gamebred.”
Nevertheless, this upcoming collision is perhaps the next hurdle for both men to clear to get to the big dance, so one can’t fault Masvidal for trying to solidify his position as the legit No. 1 title contender. Whether or not he can survive the upcoming violence headed his way remains to be seen.
Neverthless, fight fans and UFC 211 pay-per-view (PPV) buyers have been warned.
