“The Korean Superboy” will make his return to the Octagon on Saturday, July 29th.
After engaging in one of the most incredible brawls in UFC history, South Korean featherweight prospect Doo Ho Choi is ready to get back in the Octagon.
Lance Pugmire of the Los Angeles Times reported on Wednesday that “The Korean Superboy” is set to face Andre Fili at UFC 214 on July 29th in Anaheim, California. This also means that Fili has re-signed with the promotion, having completed his previous contract in his last fight.
Choi (14-2) lost a wild, unforgettable unanimous decision to Cub Swanson at UFC 206. It was his first defeat inside the Octagon, as well as the first time he’d fought into round three since a flying knee finish of Nobuhiro Obiya in 2011. His vaunted knockout power has netted him stoppages in all but two of his victories. Choi’s three UFC wins have come against Juan Manuel Puig, Sam Sicilia, and Thiago Tavares.
Fili (16-4) is coming off perhaps his most impressive performance inside the Octagon, taking a unanimous decision over Hacran Dias on short notice at UFC Portland in October. The Team Alpha Male prospect has alternated wins and losses throughout his seven-fight UFC career, with the Dias win preceded by a flying head kick KO defeat to Yair Rodriguez.
UFC 214 does not yet have a main event, although it’s expected that Daniel Cormier vs. Jon Jones 2 will be featured on this card.
