Dana White expects to strike deal with Conor McGregor today before starting negotiations with Floyd Mayweather

Believe it or not, despite this small hurdle, a much talked-about fight between Floyd Mayweather and Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Lightweight champion, Conor McGregor, isn’t dead yet.

That’s according to UFC president Dana White, who declared during the post-fight press conference that he expects to get Conor’s side of the deal done by tonight (Sun., May 14, 2017).

“We’re right there, I’m expecting to execute the deal with McGregor tomorrow, then I’ll start working with team Mayweather next week,” declared White. And while he is close to finalizing his end of the deal, White says negotiations with Floyd Mayweather and Co. will prove to be more rigorous.

“We’re just getting this deal done with Conor. What do you think the Mayweather side’s going to be like? How much time do you think I’m going to spend on this. We’re going to give it a shot,” White said.

In the past, White has never been shy about predicting how well a proposed bout will do at the pay-per-view (PPV) box office, but did hesitate in trying to predict the same for this boxing fight.

“The question is how profitable. You can assume how many buys you’re going to do, there’s no guarantee. Every time you put on a pay-per-view it’s a roll of the dice. You don’t know what’s going to happen,” he said courtesy of Fox Sports.

“There’s some fights that you do know and this feels like one of those fights that should do that, but you never know.”

Should White be able to pull of a miracle deal to get the bout done, it still likely won’t take place until 2018, as one of the biggest boxing matches in recent memory is expected to go down on Sept. 16, 2017 as Gennady Golvkin and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez will finally mix it up in a Middleweight title fight.

Something to think about, “Money.”
