I feel like I’ve heard this somewhere before…
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight champion Michael Bisping was expecting to fight former welterweight kingpin Georges St-Pierre, but “Rush” kept delaying his return to the point where promotion president Dana White got tired of waiting.
Bisping was perfectly fine just hanging around.
Probably because “The Count” is still recovering from knee surgery and can’t fight “anytime soon.” That’s according to comments the brash Brit recently made on his official podcast (via MMA Fighting) detailing his current state of health.
His words:
“It’s a blessing in disguise because I can’t fight anytime soon. I can’t exercise, I can’t train. My knee is giving me many, many problems. It was doing it in Thailand, it’s still getting no better. . . So long story short, what I’m getting at is I’m not going to be ready to fight anytime soon so again, that’s another reason why this plays into the perfect scenario for me. [Rockhold] has no grounds to talk. Some people have, to be honest. Yoel’s been there for a bit now. I understand that. Robert Whittaker is there and Gegard as well but I’ve got a fight booked and until I hear anything differently from an official source, I’m expecting to fight GSP.”
What about this ultimatum?
As we’ve seen over the past six months, current middleweight No. 1 contender Yoel Romero is (still) the odd man out, despite reassurances from White that “Soldier of God” would be next in line for a crack at the 185-pound title.
Maybe this guy had it right all along?
