In a press conference promoting Gervonta Davis vs. Liam Walsh, it was Floyd Mayweather who was predictably the center of attention.
Floyd Mayweather is in London, England to promote Saturday’s IBF junior lightweight (130 lbs) championship clash between Gervonta Davis (17-0, 16 KOs) and Liam Walsh (21-0, 14 KOs). Davis is promoted by Mayweather and is seen as one of the most intriguing rising talents in the sport. His first defense will be in enemy territory against Walsh, in a matchup which will air live on Showtime in the United States.
At Thursday’s press conference to promote Davis vs. Walsh, Mayweather was effectively the real main attraction. With news of Conor McGregor agreeing to terms with the UFC on a boxing match between him and Floyd, one reporter asked him about McGregor’s signed contract. Mayweather flat out refused to answer the question and tried to turn the attention back to the two men actually competing this weekend.
“This is Liam Walsh and Gervonta Davis’ press conference,” Mayweather said. Let’s focus on these two competitors. That’s total disrespect to both of these fighters, it’s their press conference, let’s talk about them. Both of these fighters deserve respect.”
UFC president Dana White said that he plans to meet with Mayweather’s side to finish up negotiations, at which point we’ll know the fate of this matchup between two of the biggest PPV draws of all-time.
On a completely different note, and making headlines in the United Kingdom, Mayweather lashed out at Liam’s brothers, Michael and Ryan Walsh. After repeated interruptions and Ryan shouting at Mayweather about why he never fought outside the United States, Mayweather eventually said to all Walsh brothers, “I’m 40 and I’ll beat all three of your asses on the same night.”
The war of words continued even after the press conference had ended, but this time with Mayweather surrounded by bodyguards.
“Frank Warren [Liam Walsh’s promoter], why did you even sign these two p-ssies? Both of them are b-tches.
“This isn’t even your press conference: get the f-ck out of here. I better not catch you in the US. You better get those two little leprechauns out of here before they get slapped.”
Mayweather later told reporters, “I had fun. I was f-cking with them, shooting the s—t at them.”
“I’ve been here before. It’s about Liam Walsh and Tank fighting. It’s not about them. They came here trying to steal their brother’s shine.
“If it was them on the podium they wouldn’t be saying s—t. They’d be quiet. They wouldn’t be saying nothing. But let them talk.”

Gervonta Davis vs. Liam Walsh will air on Showtime at 6 PM ET/3 PM PT, as part of a split-site quadrupleheader of fights.
