Stefan Struve vs. Alexander Volkov headlines UFC Rotterdam in September

It’ll be a battle of tall heavyweights in the UFC’s return to the Netherlands on September 2nd.

The main event of the UFC’s return to the Netherlands is now official.

On Saturday, officials announced a heavyweight tilt between Dutchman Stefan Struve and Russian Alexander Volkov will serve as the five-round headliner for UFC Fight Night in Rotterdam. The promotion held its debut event in the country in the same city back in May 2016.

Struve (28-8) is on a two-fight winning streak, having quickly knocked out Antonio Silva on last year’s Rotterdam show, followed by a submission victory against Daniel Omielanczuk at UFC 204. The 29-year-old was scheduled to rematch Junior dos Santos at UFC Halifax in February, but “The Skycraper” had to withdraw due to injury.

Volkov (28-6) has won his last four fights, with two of them taking place under the UFC banner. The former M-1 and Bellator heavyweight champion eked out a split decision over Timothy Johnson in his Octagon debut, but had a much more convincing unanimous decision vs. Roy Nelson in April.

The latest UFC rankings have Volkov and Struve ranked 10th and 11th, respectively.

UFC Fight Night: Struve vs. Volkov will be streamed live on UFC Fight Pass on Saturday, September 2nd at Ahoy Rotterdam.
