Floyd Mayweather: ‘Power-punching’ Conor McGregor is a ‘hell of a standup fighter’

Despite calling Conor McGregor a “bitch,” Floyd Mayweather recognizes the striking skills and power “Notorious” brings to the table.

“This is a boxing match, he’s a hell of a stand up fighter, I can’t take that away from him,” said Floyd during a recent interview with DJ Whoo Kid on Eminem’s SiriusXM channel Shade 45.

Indeed, seven of Conor’s victories inside the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Octagon have come via knockout, with his other two wins against Max Holloway and Nate Diaz going the distance.

“Only time McGregor has been defeated was when he was on the ground. When he was standing up, he always was victorious,” said Floyd, who didn’t take anything away from the Irishman’s power-punching abilities.

“He’s a power puncher, he’s a tough competitor, I’m a tough competitor, and we have to go out there and give the world and the fans what they want to see: excitement.”

Despite McGregor already signing his end of the deal, Floyd has yet to do the same, but says the proceedings will ramp up rather soon

“I mean, once I get back to Las Vegas, to my hub, we’ll find out how everything plays out. You know, I’ll communicate with Al [Haymon]. I’ll communicate with Leonard Ellerbe. We’ll sit down and see what we can come up with and hopefully the McGregor fight can be made.”

I like the odds of the fight happening, assuming everyone involved is reasonable, of course.
