UFC 213’s Yoel Romero burns picture of Michael Bisping holding British flag

Yoel Romero fires back at Michael Bisping for ripping up the Cuban flag.

Yoel Romero might have missed out on his chance to fight Michael Bisping for the UFC middleweight title, but ‘Soldier of God’ is more hungry than ever to get his hands on the current champion.

During UFC 213’s middleweight interim title bout between Romero and Robert Whittaker, Bisping ripped up the Cuban flag and threw it at Romero’s corner.

The two fighters had a minor altercation when ‘The Count’ entered the Octagon to face off with Whittaker (who beat Romero via unanimous decision in the main event), with Bisping having to be restrained by security.

Romero, 40, responded earlier today by burning a picture of Bisping waving the British flag, telling the Lancastrian: “I’m going to burn you and your flag for disrespecting my flag. I’m your big ticket, boy. I’m going to be your nightmare, brother.”

Expect Bisping to issue a response in the coming days. This story coincides with the news about Emily Lance, a Philadelphia local who received death threats for urinating on the American flag on July 4, Independence Day.

Romero, a former Cuban Olympic silver medalist in freestyle wrestling, was officially ranked as the No. 1 contender before losing to ‘The Reaper’ at UFC 213. The wrestling powerhouse won the first two rounds but found himself unable to deal with Whittaker’s pressure striking in the last three rounds.

If Bisping loses his title to Whittaker, it would seem likely that the UFC book a grudge match with Romero. The middleweight title unification bout between Bisping and Whittaker is expected to take place in the fall.
