Prior to getting choked out by Chris Weidman in the main event of UFC on FOX 25 last night (Sat., July 22, 2017) in Uniondale, New York (video highlights here), Kelvin Gastelum was coming off a knockout win over living legend Vitor Belfort.
The win, though, was overturned and ruled a no contest after a post-fight drug test revealed Kelvin had traces of marijuana in his system.
Now, “The Phenom” wants a chance to avenge the loss and to give Kelvin a chance for redemption as he took to Instagram to call for a rematch, all while throwing Derek Brunson under the bus for seemingly avoiding him.
I was supposed to fight @derekbrunson last year and again on September 9th. Twice UFC offered me this fight and weeks later says that he is not available. I don’t know what that means… After that they offered me a beginner as a opponent to fight in Canada…I don’t know what is happening, but if @derekbrunson can’t fight. @kgastelum let’s erase the no contest from our cards.I don’t care about your fight result tonight. I’m ready to fight!!! Let’s do it again!
That rematch will now be hard to come by, as Kelvin has already proclaimed that he will once again try his luck down at Welterweight after running into a wall of a man in Weidman.
As for Vitor, well it seems his retirement plans are no more. Belfort is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Nate Marquardt at UFC 212 last month after previously dropping two straight.
