Al Iaquinta hopes ‘constant mockery’ Snoop Dogg is booted off Contender Series

UFC lightweight Al Iaquinta isn’t a fan of rap icon Snoop Dogg calling Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series.

Al Iaquinta doesn’t think Snoop Dogg and mixed martial arts commentary should go together.

Most watchers have been pleased with rap icon Snoop Dogg’s broadcast work at Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series (DWTNCS), prospect cards that have been running once a week for the past month on UFC Fight Pass.

But Iaquinta isn’t a fan and doesn’t take kindly to some of Snoop Dogg’s words. In response to Snoop Dogg saying Jon Jones made Daniel Cormier cry ‘like a little b-tch’ at UFC 214, the 155-pound fighter, who also sells real estate, said he hopes Snoop Dogg is replaced on DWTNCS.

“Guy has no respect or knowledge of the sport or fighters. Constant mockery,” the New York native wrote on Twitter this past weekend.

Really wish they’d replace @SnoopDogg on contender series. Guy has no respect or knowledge of the sport or fighters. Constant mockery https://t.co/ENJOtTqgie

“What other sport has an alternate broadcast with an ignorant rapper mocking its athletes?” he added.

Iaquinta appears not to be alone. UFC welterweight Matt Brown agreed with Iaquinta’s sentiment.

Since the pilot DWTNCS event on July 11, Snoop Dogg and UFC Hall of Famer Urijah Faber have called the action on the “SnoopCast,” an alternate commentary option. It is much more relaxed than the traditional commentary — both have consumed alcoholic beverages, and Snoop Dogg has smoked marijuana during the shows.

Snoop Dogg’s inexperience as a commentator has shown through, but one may argue he has taken it too far by criticizing fighters for certain things, including not wanting to fight (this happened when Daniel Jolly couldn’t see out of his eye during the third event). This is what most likely lead to Iaquinta’s complaints.

Week 5 of DWTNCS takes place live from The Ultimate Fighter Gym in Las Vegas on August 8 and is headlined by Michael Rodriguez vs. Jamelle Jones.
