‘Relevant’ Stipe Miocic a bigger risk to Jon Jones than Brock Lesnar would be

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight champion Jon Jones is on the hunt for a Heavyweight showdown against former division champion Brock Lesnar.

For “Bones,” getting a fight against the massive monster makes more financial sense, as Lesnar will bring in the pay-per-view (PPV) buys, something current 265-pound kingpin, Stipe Miocic, can’t do at the moment since no one knows who he is, according to Jones.

Miocic takes issue with that comment, as he told FloCombat he is more than relevant and is down for a “Bones” showdown.

“Listen, I’ll fight anyone. If the UFC wants me to fight Jon, I’ll fight him,” he said. “All I care about right now is breaking that record, winning now and keeping the belt for a long time. I think I am relevant. I don’t know what he’s talking about. I don’t have as many fans as him on social media maybe, but I’m pretty sure I’m relevant.”

According to Stipe, perhaps the real reason Jones is trying to bypass him to get to Lesnar is the fact that he’ll pose a much bigger threat for a loss than “The Beast Incarnate” would.

“I’m the baddest man on the planet for a reason. He can think what he wants, whatever. Listen, at the end of the day I am relevant,” he added. “Yeah definitely, I’m a bigger risk 100 percent than Brock Lesnar. There’s no question.”

But can you do this?

While Miocic won’t bring in Lesnar-type numbers, it’s still a fight fans would tune in to watch, regardless of what Jones thinks.

“It would be a huge fight. I don’t understand why you don’t think it would be a huge fight,” Miocic said. “You’ve got pound-for-pound best fighter in the world against No. 4 pound-for-pound. We’re both champions, and it’s a fight people want to see. But I’m irrelevant right now so we’ll see.”

Still, a fight against Jones is unlikely to happen, ever, so Miocic is ready to fill his dance card against whoever comes his way.

“I’ll fight anyone,” Miocic said. “If the UFC wants me to fight Jon Jones, I’ll fight Jon Jones. If they want me to fight Cain Velasquez, I’ll fight Cain Velasquez. If they want me to fight Anthony Joshua, I’ll fight Anthony Joshua. I don’t really care,” he clarified.

“I’m a professional for a reason. I’m a fighter. I don’t call out people. Whoever you want me to fight, I’m going to fight. I don’t care.”
