Abel Trujillo has been forced out of his scheduled Lightweight fight against Lando Vannata — which was set to go down at UFC 216 in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Oct. 7, 2017. As a result, Bobby Green has agreed to step up and face “Groovy” in “Sin City,” according to MMA Junkie.
The reason for Trujillo’s withdrawal was not disclosed.
Vannata is coming off a unanimous decision loss to David Teymur at UFC 209 earlier this year. “Groovy” burst onto the UFC scene by nearly upsetting Tony Ferguson on short notice back in 2016. Since then, the Jackson-Winkeljohn-trained fighter has racked up a 1-2 record inside the Octagon.
As for Green, he will go into the fight on a three-fight losing streak, dropping bouts to Edson Barboza, Dustin Poirier and most recently against Rashid Madomedov. In fact, Green’s last win inside the eight-walled cage came in 2014, which is when he took out Josh Thomson via split-decision.
A main event has yet-to-be officially announced for UFC 216, which currently features another Lightweight scrap between Will Brooks and Nik Lentz, as well as a Thales Leites vs Brad Tavares.
