Mike Tyson grades ‘Big Balls’ Conor McGregor for Floyd Mayweather performance
Despite putting up a better fight than most expected he would against Floyd Mayweather Jr. last weekend (Sat., Aug. 26, 2017) in Las Vegas, Nevada, not everybody was impressed with Conor McGregor’s performance in his first-ever professional boxing match.
In fact, one expert called it flat out “pathetic.”
Mike Tyson, though, has a different take, as the former multi-time Heavyweight boxing champion and renowned Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fan was highly-impressed with “Notorious,” and wasn’t afraid to give him a high mark for his performance.
“It was exciting, I though he did great. Man, I’d give him an ‘A,’ he did great. A guy that never did that before and went 10 rounds, never fought before, golly,” proclaimed “Iron Mike” during a recent interview on the Luke Thomas Show on Sirius XM. “Listen, he’s got a big set of balls just to go in the ring.”
As far as the stoppage goes — which occurred in the tenth round after “Money” rocked “Notorious” — Tyson agreed with the masses that it was stopped prematurely.
“He should’ve went down, the guy stopped it a little too quick,” added Tyson, who was shocked — just like Mayweather — as how good a boxer the Irishman was. “McGregor is better than I thought he was as a fighter. I knew he’d get knocked out, but I didn’t think he would last that long.”
Conor is expected to return to the Octagon for his next combat sports venture to defend his 155-pound title. But, if he wanted to continue in the “sweet science,” Tyson says “Notorious” has the tools to make it a career. Plus he’ll get paid more doing it, too.
“He’s capable of doing anything else. He can do it if he wants to. I would say go back to UFC, but if you get paid more money boxing I would box,” concluded Tyson.
McGregor has yet to decide what he will actually do next after partaking in the biggest fight of his career. But at the end of the day, the money-making machine has plenty of options and challengers to pick from.
