What’s next for Alexander Volkov after chopping down Stefan Struve at UFC Rotterdam?

Alexander Volkov may not quite be a name on people’s radar, but the former Bellator MMA Heavyweight champion is forcing people to take notice. His latest win came against the towering Stefan Struve, knocking him out in the third round with precision striking to earn consecutive win number five, his third straight inside the Octagon.

Indeed, the future looks bright for Volkov, who ended his Bellator MMA career with two straight defeats. Currently ranked at No. 8, Volkov can expect his foes to get bigger and tougher.

Up next for Alexander should be a fight against Francis Ngannou, as the only way to go is up for Alex.

Francis was all set to face Junior dos Santos before “Cigano” was popped by United States Anti Doping Agency (USADA). And while “JDS” is out to prove his innocence, Francis needs a dance partner.

Both men can bang it out on the feet, and though a fight between Francis and Volkov isn’t the easiest sell, it may be the only one that makes sense at the time as most of the division, is booked up at the moment. A big win over Volkov could catapult Ngannou into title contention, while a victory for Alexander could see him move into the top five.

I liken Volkov to Volkan Oezdemir, as people don’t believe he’s the real deal until he’s knocking out potential title challengers…like this. The same can be said for Alexander if he continues on the pace he’s on. And just like Volkan did to Jimi Manuwa, if he can take out Ngannou, he can steal his shine and his place a top of the 265-pound ladder.

Unless, of course, you have any other suggestions?
