Bisping ‘couldn’t give a sh-t’ if GSP is working with Freddie Roach: He knows I’m a better boxer

Ahead of his UFC return against Michael Bisping, former welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre is training with renowned boxing coach Freddie Roach. But Bisping, the current middleweight champ, ‘couldn’t give a sh-t’.

St-Pierre, who announced his decision to come out of retirement earlier this year, has worked with Roach in the past to work on his boxing. The Canadian battered Josh Koscheck and broke his orbital bone with a jab at UFC 214 and has proved to be one of the most well-rounded fighters in the sport.

Bisping, though, who is known primarily as a striker, isn’t concerned with St-Pierre’s hands and believes ‘Rush’s’ best chance is to look for the take down.

“I know [Georges] is a good wrestler, he’s a strong guy,” Bisping said on the latest edition of his podcast, Believe You Me (h/t Jed Meshew of MMA Fighting). He’s working with Freddie Roach which I couldn’t give a s**t about to be honest. . . I’m really not concerned about what he’s gonna do or what [Roach] is gonna improve him on and I hope that he improves his boxing to where Georges wants to stand and have a boxing fight with me. I hope he does that.

“The only way he wins this fight is by taking me down and holding me down or getting the submission because he ain’t winning on the feet and he knows that.”

Despite having no wrestling background, St-Pierre is considered one of the best wrestlers in MMA and won the majority of his fights through dominating his opponents on the mat.

Bisping believes the former champ is devising a master game plan and will put on the best performance of his career on Nov. 4.

“What you’ve got to remember is that Georges is no idiot,” Bisping said. “He’s really not. He’s a very intelligent guy and his approach to the game has always been an intelligent approach. He knows what he’s doing. He’s been preparing for this for a long, long time. All this year he’s been preparing for it and probably the year before that. . . He’s gonna come with a game plan and be very well prepared and I actually think that the detrimental fact of being away for four years is also going to make him very hungry and we might see the best performance out of him ever.”

The middleweight championship tilt between Bisping and St-Pierre will headline the upcoming UFC 217 pay-per-view, which is set to take place on November 4 at Madison Square Garden in New York.
