Donald Cerrone was nothing but class following his upset loss to Darren Till.
Many expected Donald Cerrone to be too much, too soon for Darren Till, but the British welterweight prospect shocked the world with a first-round TKO at UFC Fight Night 118.
Till, who found his timing early, teed off on Cerrone from the opening bell and eventually overwhelmed the MMA veteran with a flurry of punches at the end of the first round.
Cerrone, who admitted in the pre-fight build-up that he hadn’t heard of Till, congratulated the 24-year-old on social media for breaking the ‘f-ck’ out of his nose.
Cerrone, of course, is one of the most humble fighters on the roster and has been a fan favorite since his UFC debut against Paul Kelly in 2011.
‘Cowboy’, a former title challenger at lightweight, made the switch to welterweight last year and quickly rattled off four straight wins over Alex Oliveira, Patrick Cote, Rick Story, and Matt Brown.
After such a promising start, Cerrone was already knocking on the door for another title shot but the 34-year-old’s win streak came to an end against Jorge Masvidal in January. Cerrone suffered a second-round TKO loss to ‘Gamebred’ and then dropped a decision to former welterweight champion Robbie Lawler at UFC 214. His loss to Till is his third straight, but the former WEC standout is still ranked at No. 6 in the official UFC welterweight rankings.
Expect Cerrone, who is one of the most active fighters in the sport, to rebound in his next bout.
