Here’s why the referee booted Conor McGregor at UFC Gdansk
Even though the “C” in UFC stands for Conor, as in Conor McGregor (according to this guy), not even the uber-popluar Irishman is above the law when it comes the unified rules of mixed martial arts (MMA).
That’s why referee Marc Goddard gave McGregor the boot when “Notorious” stormed the cage to shout instructions to longtime friend and teammate Artem Lobov, who went down on points to Andre Fili at UFC Gdansk.
“The reason I interjected is because Artem gets a fourth cornerman cage side giving instruction. That’s not allowed. Imagine had Conor talked him through a fight-ending sequence. Then what? That’s simply not fair and not allowed. I won’t have it. He can’t do as he pleases. If Conor had stood up, stayed at his seat, then he could have shouted until his hearts content. My integrity is not wavered and neither is the rules. We can’t allow that. I simply had to act.”
The loss was the second straight for Lobov (13-14-1, 1 NC), who punched his ticket to UFC stardom by competing on season 22 of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF), coached by McGregor and former UFC bantamweight Urijah Faber.
As for McGregor, he’s expected to return to UFC by the end of the year or first-quarter 2018 against Tony Ferguson, who eliminated Kevin Lee at the UFC 216 pay-per-view (PPV) to claim the interim lightweight strap.
