Breakout talent Darren Till foresees three UFC world titles in the future.
After his stunning first-round knockout over Donald Cerrone at UFC Fight Night 118, budding prospect Darren Till is already being compared to combat sports megastar Conor McGregor.
Oozing with self-belief and unbridled confidence, Till told Dan Hardy in the post-fight interview that he’s ‘the best fighter in the world’ and, speaking to Ariel Helwani in a recent edition of The MMA Hour, the Liverpudlian has promised to become a multi-divisional champion.
“When I say I’m going to beat these guys, I know it. When I say I’m going to be champion in numerous divisions, I know it’s going to happen,” Till said, per MMA Fighting’s Peter Carroll.
“My mind doesn’t say, ‘Oh hang on, let’s question that.’ My mind also believes it as I’m saying it. Every thing about me believes it.”
Speaking of McGregor, who became the UFC’s first simultaneous two-division champ, capturing both the featherweight and lightweight titles, Till believes he will surpass the Irishman by winning belts in three separate weight classes.
“This has been a thought of mine for a few years now, for the last two or three. Just because of how big I am I know I can’t stay at welterweight forever and the way you see a guy like Conor getting the two.
“To me, now, that’s already been done, so now I need three. I need to beat him in that because when I say I want to be the greatest, I don’t want people to question it and go, ‘Well hang on, GSP, Jon Jones…’
“I just want people to say, ‘Darren’s at the top, and they’re all below Darren.’ That’s what I see and that’s what will happen.”
Talk of winning three UFC belts might be a little premature but, at just 24 years of age and with an undefeated record, Till could very well be the future of the welterweight division. The former K-1 European champ stormed into the top 10 with his win over ‘Cowboy’ and has entertained potential bouts with Mike Perry and Stephen Thompson.
