Longtime Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight slugger, Matt Brown, will fight his final fight at the upcoming UFC Fight Night 120 mixed martial arts (MMA) event on FOX Sports 1, slated for Ted Constant Convocation Center in Norfolk, Va., on Sat., Nov. 11, 2017.
Opposing him is fellow Ultimate Fighter (TUF) grad Diego Sanchez, who returns to his old stomping grounds of 170 pounds after a lengthy run at lightweight, which returned mixed results for the aging “Nightmare.”
Don’t expect Brown to play it safe.
“This fight with Diego is gonna be my retirement fight,” Brown said. “It’s gonna be the last time I step into the UFC Octagon. It’s hard to think about that. Maybe I didn’t accomplish the dreams I set out to accomplish, but I was very, very close.”
“I’m gonna go out with a bang,” he continued. “I’m not gonna let nobody down. I’m gonna leave every bit of my heart, soul, and body out there. I’m not gonna bring anything home.”
Brown (20-16) has struggled to stay relevant in the second half of his career, going just 1-5 over the last three years and racking up three straight defeats. His knockout loss to Donald Cerrone at UFC 206 effectively eliminated him from the 170-pound title chase.
In fact, “The Immortal” is no longer ranked in the top 15.
Sanchez (27-10), meanwhile, has been consistently inconsistent, compiling a 6-6 record since late 2010 while failing to win consecutive fights since outpointing Paulo Thiago and Martin Kampmann roughly six years back.
Can Brown finish his career with a win? We’ll find out in roughly 48 hours.
