The producers of Conor McGregor’s ‘Notorious’ documentary add more footage from the controversial sparring sessions.
The Conor McGregor: Notorious documentary gives you a great inside look at the UFC double champ’s life before he made it big, but is a bit more sparse when it comes to the most recent events in his career. All the Mayweather vs. McGregor stuff was basically tucked into the very end of the film, but it sounds like there was more footage captured that didn’t make it into the film.
Now we’re getting our first look at some of it, and it shows more of the infamous Paulie Malignaggi sparring sessions.
Malignaggi was brought in by McGregor to help him prepare for the Mayweather fight, or at least that’s what Paulie thought was happening. In reality, McGregor was basically setting Malignaggi up to take a beating for various derogatory statements the former boxing champ had made to the press.
Whether that’s how it went down in the ring is dependent on who you ask. Team McGregor said it was a one sided beating and released footage that seemed to show Conor knocking Paulie down. Paulie insists it was an illegal shove and that was basically the only footage that made McGregor look good.
Now take a look at the new footage (via Zombie Prophet):
As you’d expect from something released by the Conor Documentary team (McGregor executive produced the film), it makes Conor look pretty good. The 16 seconds show McGregor landing a good uppercut, a counter that Paulie congratulates him on, and of course the infamous knockdown.
That’s still a suspiciously small amount of footage to release considering the two went at it for multiple rounds, but maybe the plan is to milk it even longer and keep some in their back pocket, just in case (lord forbid) an actual boxing match with Malignaggi ever happens.
Conor McGregor: Notorious is now available on DVD and via streaming services.
