Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight champion Anderson Silva is facing a lengthy suspension from United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), if in fact “The Spider” is found guilty of using performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs).
That means the 42-year-old Brazilian will have lots of free time in 2018 to complete all sorts of bucket-list items, like that oft-teased boxing showdown against legendary pugilist Roy Jones Jr., who is also getting up there in age at 48.
“I’m still trying to fight Anderson Silva right now,” Jones Jr. told The Ask Gary Vee Show (via MMA Fighting). “Me and Anderson Silva have been trying to fight way before Floyd Mayweather and McGregor ever thought about this. He has 14 professional boxing matches so the different thing about it is, he has boxing experience.”

Not surprisingly, Silva promptly responded to Jones Jr. on Instagram and started planning his return to the “sweet science” in 2018, perhaps forgetting how suspensions (and contracts) work in combat sports.
“This is everything I’ve wanted for years, long before all this happened, it will be a pleasure to step into the ring with you,” Silva said. “Let’s make this event happen. I think we have this right, in fact this is something that both you and I are willing to do. So, let’s make it happen, Mr. Roy.”
But what about that positive drug test, the second of Silva’a career?
“I don’t care about no PEDs,” Jones Jr. insisted. “He can have all the PEDs he wants because that’s my man. I don’t believe he’d take PEDs against me, no way, but even if he had a PED show up in his system, I don’t care about that.”
Nice to see someone FINALLY listened to this guy.
