Bad news for those hoping to see Cyborg vs. a real 145 pounder in Perth, Australia.

Cris Cyborg teased the internet earlier today with news that she’d accepted a fight against Invicta FC 145 pound champ Megan Anderson at Australia’s UFC 221 in February. But unfortunately for us, it sounds like the fight is anything but confirmed.

This all started, like most Cyborg fight rumors, straight from the Cyborg herself over social media. I don’t know what it is about Cris, but she certainly enjoys announcing fights that aren’t anywhere near confirmed. “I got a call asking if I WOULD fight @megana_mma in her home country and I said Yes!” she wrote.

Alas, Megan Anderson responded shortly after calling Cyborg’s post ‘fake news,’ which certainly doesn’t sound promising for the fight coming together.

And then Ariel Helwani showed up with his pesky insider information and facts and took another chop at the fight.

What Megan needs to clear before she can fight again is a mystery, but it was the same reason she didn’t end up fighting Cyborg at UFC 214, with Tonya Evinger taking her spot. That may put the nix on Cyborg competing at UFC 221 in Perth, Australia at all, given how few women the UFC has in their 145 pound division.
