Rory MacDonald captured his first-ever mixed martial arts (MMA) world title after he defeated Douglas Lima last night (Sat., Jan. 20, 2018) at Bellator 192 via unanimous decision in what was a hard-fought war.
But it came at a price, as “The Phenom” busted Rory up, in particular his left leg, which ballooned up after the Brazilian bomber peppered and battered it all night long with vicious, powerful kicks which at one point dropped MacDonald.
Being a good sport despite losing his title after suffering his first loss in three years, Lima took the time to pose with MacDonald — who had to be carried out and placed on a stretcher backstage — afterward.
What is it with Rory and all-out wars?
MacDonald goes up 2-0 so far in his Bellator career after bolting for the Viacom-owned promotion after suffering back-to-back defeats inside the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Octagon, including coming up short for the 170-pound strap against Robbie Lawler at UFC 189.
Those days are now long behind him, as “Red King” can finally call himself a champion and if he keeps his word, he could be moving up a few weight classes in order to become a multi-division champion by the end of this year.
