Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight
Welcome to Midnight Mania!
Anthony Pettis and Michael Chiesa are being targeted to fight on the UFC 223 card in Brooklyn, ESPN’s Brett Okamoto reports.
Per sources, UFC is targeting a lightweight bout between Anthony Pettis and Michael Chiesa for UFC 223 on April 7 in Brooklyn.
— Brett Okamoto (@bokamotoESPN) January 31, 2018
Both sides have verbally agreed to the bout, which would be another great lightweight contest on a card scheduled to be headlined by Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Tony Ferguson.
13th-ranked Anthony Pettis has been struggling to recapture anything like the form that made him “Showtime”, the UFC lightweight champion and a burgeoning star in 2013 and 2014. Since then, he has gone 2-5, his most recent fight a hard-fought Fight of the Night (FOTN) loss to Dustin Poirier. Michael Chiesa also lost his last fight, a controversial stoppage to Kevin Lee. Prior to that, Chiesa, ranked 9th, had racked up three wins in a row. Chiesa is known as a dominant top-control grappler, with seven wins via rear-naked choke, while Pettis is known for his flashy kicks, ability to escape the back mount, and slick submissions.

Great quote from Jon Fitch to a Congress staffer:
One of my favourite moments on my US trip, when I stayed with @MMAFA and documented their lobbying efforts for the #AliAct in DC. IMO, this exchange between a Republican congressman’s staffer and @jonfitchdotnet says a lot about the campaign and those who oppose the reform. pic.twitter.com/lwrRu4uMt9

If you haven’t heard it yet, our interview with Nate Quarry was my favorite yet. I had never heard his story before, and he got into some deep stuff about the motivation he took from watching his dad collect his last paycheck, his personal quest for truth after being raised in a cult, and getting his spine fused in the middle of his career.
